A voice for art

When people write their resumes, the first thing they have to fill out is their objective. What is your goal? What do you want to do with yourself? What do you want to be in life?

Me? I don't know.

Well, it's not that I'm completely in the dark about it. I just don't know what name to call it. Today I was chatting with a good friend of mine, Kevin, and we were on the topic of loving your art--loving it too much, loving it not enough.  I think when artists are young, they've fallen in love with it from the start.  Then eventually the world tells them that they need to grow up, get real, maybe explore other options and get out of it, but deep down they always remember their first love and that's what brings them back into trying to be an artist.  It's inescapable! At least that's how it was like for me.

So... what kind of art do you want to do? ..........I think I've figured it out! I still don't know what to call it though >~<  During my chat with Kevin:

Me :  I really just want to be a representative that art matters.  I want to be living proof that art isn't just something that kids do when they're bored and want don't want to pay attention in class
Kev :  Well, it's going to be hard to convince people of that. People who think art matters will always feel that way
Me :  I want to show that art matters in the real world, that people need it, they want it, and I want to show that it's something of substance.
Kev :  I think it is. It nurtures other people's creativity and imaginations. I think people get sick of being "in this world" sometimes and need something to retreat to, which is where we come in, I guess. And when I say we, I mean artists at large.
Me : Well, without it, I feel like the world is too sterile and sad lol.
Kev :  Yea, definitely true, but I think people already feel that way...unless they don't, like, there are people that are overly practical who only concern themselves with practical things and these people would be hard to convince.
Me :  But I want to merge the two, like Massimo Vignelli.  I want to merge practical and beautiful.  His company is one of the oldest that holds the idea that everything should be designed.
Kev :  Yea, haha, I don't know how anybody could argue with that.
Me :  Oh baby! That's my dream job right there!

So, that's it. I want to design everything.  If you know the pathway to get to there, show me the way! :D

My Newest Favorite Music Video

Maybe it's the nerd in me, or maybe it's the innocence of 80's movies, but I absolutely LOVE this video. Even though it's only halfway through the year, this is my pick for tops this year!!!

Behance my Water??!?! (º^º) meow?

click on the pictures to enlarge
So I've finally put together the floating concept of water bottles in my head...and it turned out not to look as mind-blowing as I thought the concept was... *Sigh. Whatta noob. That's alright, I'll Behance it anyway! And if they don't like it, they don't like it. (Hopefully they like it--hopefully you like it! hehehe)

AC Grad Show 2011 & Quilling's Revival

The art of quilling has been around since the Renaissance times, but its popularity has been increasing more and more now these days in terms of gallery art work. If you don't know what quilling is, Google defines it as:

quill·ing
noun /ˈkwiliNG/
quillings, plural
  1. A piece of quilled lace or other fabric used as a trim
  2. A type of ornamental craftwork involving the shaping of paper, fabric, or glass into delicate pleats or folds
The other week I went to Art Center's Grad Show 2011 with some friends to congratulate Daniel C. Huang (major: product design) and to peruse the gallery. Needless to say, Daniel's works are amazing! He made a product that was a nightlight, a vacuum cleaner, and a ???. If you want to check out some of the pictures we took, you can check it out here. There are also pictures of other people's artworks who were graduating, and one person used quilling in their works. It was just beautiful! I was reminded about it when I saw some amazing quilling on the Oddity Central site the other day.

Shoes

I've always been more of a jacket girl, myself, but these shoes are SEXY. (Jamie Beck GIF)

Did you know that heels were made so that it makes a woman's buttocks and breasts more prominent? At least that's what was said on the Big Bang Theory show. What TV says must be true. However, I heard through the grapevine that high heels also gives you spider-veins on your legs, eventually. Oh, what we do for vanity.

Calpico vs. Water

It's been hot lately. I don't drink as much water as I should, but you know what I could down? Calpico. I don't think that's a good resolution, but at least I'm not dehydrated. =~= Ahhh....

Someone's Talking About Me!

The other day I decided to Google Search myself because I turn into a paranoid freak from time to time and I think the government (and possibly a psycho) are out to get me so I check for my availability to strangers. I don't know why I do it or why I think that. I just do. (Probably because of sites like Spokeo! Damn that site!! By the way, if you haven't already you should probably check for yourself and remove yourself from that site A.S.A.P. if you don't want your private info to be bought by anybody out there!!! It'll probably be put back there in a few months to a few years or so, but that's why I get paranoid! See? DO IIIIIT!)

Anyway, instead of finding some horrific site revealing my whereabouts that I did not post up myself, I found a small blib of a local journalistic article mentioning my artwork in the Senior BFA 2010 show in the Daily 49er. º~º Janine Zuniga, you made my day!  She's probably just has an inner-nerd like I do. Yes! Nerds UNITE!

10th Annual Free Comic Book Day

From David P.'s Mouse Guard
Today's the day! Comic book stores from all over are giving away free comics in hopes of reviving the comics community as well as inviting new members to share in the love of graphic novel reading.  Or if you just like to get free stuff, today's the day to get some from comic book stores hehehe º~º

I think it was last year during this time a friend of my boyfriend's introduced us to a new (at least new to me) comic called "Mouse Guard".  It's exciting, nostalgic, beautifully drawn, and the characters are SOOOOOOO FRIGGIN' CUUUUUTE! My favorite character is Saxon because he's badass... He's like Wolverine in little cute mouse-form hahahahahahah! <3  Plus, last year during SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) the creator signed the first and second books that I purchased and a poster. Thanks David Petersen! (And thanks George from Comics Factory in Pasadena for introducing it to us!)

Go out and discover a new graphic novel for yourself today! (It's freeeeee!)

CSULB 2010 Senior Art Show: Illustration & Animation

Image taken from Scott Pilgrim
This year CSULB made it mandatory that all graduating seniors in the art program must be part of a gallery show on campus, and I think it's brilliant!  We all worked really hard to get into the program in the first place, and this is a perfect way to celebrate that we made it!  (Can I get a, "Awwwww YEA!"?) And having your artwork in a week-long show for anyone to see (free admission) is a great way to support the arts, especially now with the whole bad economy and all. Hooray! Support the arts! (and give an artist like me a job! hehehehehe For serious.)
If you didn't get to go to the gallery, or you want to relive this momentous occasion, click here!

Pastries, because it goes well with Milk

Oreo and vanilla cream
Right before the huge cupcake-boom, we made these babies. Too bad we don't really have the revenue to make a business out of it yet :1. *Sigh... I live for the little moments, and dream of the big ones.  But hey! If you're in need of some cupcake bakers to hire, you know where to look! ;)  *wink wink*

Revamping the Blog

Originally I had the notion of posting up my artwork in this blog, but I decided to post it here instead! I think it looks neater. Plus, I spent a lot of time cleaning up the other one and I'm pooped from doing that hahaha! So all the artwork (+more) that I have posted here have migrated over to Weebly. However, I'm keeping this one for updates. :)  I also changed the look of this blog to match my Weebly. For some reason, that makes me super giddy heheheheheeeeeeeeeeeeh!
